Concept & Design
Designed and constructed by Mia Nilaani, style ‘LOLA’ explores romantic outerwear through versatility and transformation. The blush wool-blend coat features a detachable cape, collar and back bow, allowing a single silhouette to shift between statement and streamlined styling.
Versatility was central to the design. The cape, collar and sculptural back bow are detachable, allowing the silhouette to transform depending on how the garment is styled. Concealed closures maintain a clean exterior, while four welt pockets integrate functionality into the design.
Design & Construction
Developed from concept through construction, the coat features four exterior welt pockets, concealed snap closures and a hand-constructed quilted lining. Two interior pockets are integrated discreetly into the seams with invisible zippers, balancing functionality with a clean exterior finish.
Construction & Interior
The interior was designed with the same attention as the exterior. I constructed the lining with diamond-pattern quilting and incorporated two discreet interior pockets with invisible zippers along the seams. The cape was developed from a single, full circular pattern piece to create volume and a smooth, fluid drape around the shoulders.
Technical Development
The detachable elements were engineered as part of the garment's construction rather than added as decoration. The cape uses a single circular pattern piece for fluid volume, while the collar and sculptural back bow attach through concealed hardware.
